Montenegro population 2011: More boys than girls

If you get to Montenegro, chances are you will run into a Jelena or Nikola as the most popular female and male names. And as far as we could see, in the future it will be more difficult for Montenegrin boys to find their girl as the girls have more choice (red=female / blue=male / from bottom to top)
The Statistical office of Montenegro conducted their 10-year population count between the 1st and 15th of April 2011. The census was conducted using traditional interview method with the door-to-door principle. The data presented refers to the basic demographic characteristics. For the first time the Statistical Office conducted a research of name statistics. Below we give a little overview of the most important data.
Breakdown of age from 0 to 14 years of age makes 19.2% in the total population. Working age population (15-64) is 68%, while the population aged 65 and over is 12.8%.
The average age of the population of Montenegro is 37 years. Women on average are 38, and men 36 years old. An average age of population in urban areas is 37, while in other areas is 38 years.
Population of Pluzine in average is the oldest one with 44 years, and youngest one is the population of Rozaje with an average of 32 years. An adult population is present 76.5% in the total population. Children aged 0-5 years of preschool age present 7.4% of the total population. Primary school children, aged 6-15 years, present 13.2%, while secondary school age children, 15-19 years old, present 7.1% in the total population.


Wishing to do more interesting results of the Census, for the first time, the Statistical Office publishes the name statistics. The most frequent female name in Montenegro is Jelena, and male name Nikola. The most frequent names differ in some municipalities, thus the table like this is an integral part of this release.
